ERO previously lodged an immigration detainer while Hachipan was in the custody of Marion County, Oregon after a conviction in 2021; however, sanctuary politicians refused to honor the detainer and released him into the community. Two years later, in 2023, Hachipan reoffended and was convicted again of second-degree burglary. Hachipan was again released into the community under the supervision of Marion County. HSI issued an administrative subpoena to Marion County requesting information that could lead to Hachipan’s whereabouts. Citing Oregon’s sanctuary law, Marion County refused to provide the information. HSI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office subsequently obtained a federal court order forcing Marion County to provide the information that led to the arrest of Hachipan.

This Department is steadfast in its mission to arrest and remove the worst illegal aliens like this sex offender who has no place in American society. We will continue to hunt down and remove public safety threats from our communities.”
